Elon Musk has announced that his AI company, xAI, will create a new AI-powered gaming studio to compete with big gaming corporations. Musk plans to challenge what he sees as the growing trend of video games being influenced by political and ideological messages.
He said his new gaming studio will focus on making games better, using the phrase “make games great again,” a nod to the MAGA slogan associated with Donald Trump.
Musk’s comments came after Billy Markus, co-creator of Dogecoin, shared his frustration with the gaming industry. Markus criticized game developers and gaming journalism for becoming too political, and he said gamers have always opposed greedy corporations and fake ideas.
Musk agreed, saying that too many game studios are controlled by large corporations, and xAI would create a gaming studio to improve the industry.
Musk has also spoken out against certain trends in gaming. He criticized a new Xbox game called Avowed for allowing players to choose pronouns, calling it “utterly unacceptable” for a fantasy game.
Musk also reacted to a post about Microsoft’s gaming division allegedly discriminating against white people in its hiring practices. The post claimed that Microsoft was prioritizing hiring people from certain minority groups. Musk called this illegal and tagged Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella in his response.
xAI, launched by Musk in 2023, was created to be a competitor to OpenAI’s ChatGPT. Earlier this year, xAI made its AI tool, Grok, available to the public for free to try out.
The company raised $6 billion in May, bringing its value to $24 billion. It’s now expected to raise another $5 billion, which could increase xAI’s value to $50 billion in just six months.
