After three generations of unrepaired models, Google is finally considering making a Pixel Watch that can be fixed instead of replaced. So far, if a Pixel Watch gets broken—like a cracked screen—users have had to buy a new one. This policy has applied to the original Pixel Watch, the Pixel Watch 2, and even the newly launched Pixel Watch 3. Google hasn’t offered easy repair options, leaving many users frustrated.
According to Wired, during a recent panel at Climate Week NYC, Nicole Azores, a manager at Google, mentioned that the company is looking into making future Pixel Watches more repairable. She emphasized that Google is thinking about how to design these devices so they can be fixed rather than replaced.
While wearables like watches are still a relatively new area for Google, they recognize the importance of repairability across all their products—not just phones and tablets.
However, there’s no timeline for when these changes might happen. If Google hasn’t figured out how to make the current models repairable yet, it’s unlikely we’ll see any changes in the next version.
Still, this is a positive step forward. In the past, Google mainly pointed users toward replacement options without hinting at future repair plans.
Last year, Google did introduce a protection plan for the Pixel Watch 2, which made replacements cheaper and more accessible, and the same plan is now available for the Pixel Watch 3.
Additionally, Google has started rolling out Wear OS 5 to the original Pixel Watch and Pixel Watch 2, bringing them up to date with the latest software.
