Google Pixel 9a First Look: Flat Camera Bar and Key Features Revealed

Google‘s Pixel 9 series recently launched, but there’s still one more model on the way—the Pixel 9a. As usual, Google is expected to release this budget-friendly version in the spring, likely around its annual Google I/O event. Thanks to early leaks from OnLeaks, we’re already getting a sneak peek at the design changes for the Pixel 9a.

One of the most noticeable changes in the Pixel 9a design is the camera bar. Unlike previous models, the camera bar on the 9a sits almost flat against the back of the phone, with only a slight ring around it that sticks out. This design is reminiscent of the LG V60 ThinQ from a few years ago.

The camera setup itself is similar to the Pixel 9, featuring both a wide and ultrawide lens. One other thing that stands out is the size of the bezels. Since the Pixel 9a will likely be priced under $500, it’s not too surprising to see larger bezels, though they’re still quite noticeable.

What makes the Pixel 9a special is that it will launch with Android 15, something that even the rest of the Pixel 9 series hasn’t done. Android 15 itself is expected to roll out around mid-October. Plus, like the Pixel 8a, the Pixel 9a will receive seven years of software updates, which is a big selling point for users who want long-term software support.

In terms of hardware, the Pixel 9a will likely share many similarities with the Pixel 8a. The 8a had a 6.1-inch display, 8GB of RAM, and 128GB of storage. However, the 9a will upgrade to the Tensor G4 chip, and its battery might get a slight increase from the 8a’s 4492mAh capacity.

There’s also speculation that this could be the last Pixel to feature a Samsung-designed processor, with the Pixel 10 expected to switch to a fully Google-customized chip made by TSMC.

At the right price, the Pixel 9a could be a solid option when it drops next year.
