In a surprise move, Google has announced that the next update for the Pixel Watch won’t arrive until March 2025, breaking from the usual monthly update schedule. The news came in a recent statement, where Google explained that after releasing the November 2024 update for all three generations of Pixel Watch, there will be a longer break before the next one.
Google’s said, Pixel Watch 1, Pixel Watch 2, and Pixel Watch 3 devices will receive the November 2024 software update, with the next update planned for March 2025.
Typically, Google rolls out updates for the Pixel Watch every month, just like it does for its Pixel phones. These updates usually include important security fixes and minor tweaks to improve performance.
Some bigger updates, like the recent upgrade to Wear OS 5, are released less often, but these monthly updates are a regular part of maintaining the watch. However, Google decided to skip the October update entirely and announced that the next update would come in March 2025, meaning there will be a gap of about three months between updates.
While this might sound like a big change, it’s important to note that these monthly updates for the Pixel Watch mostly bring security patches or small improvements. New features are often added separately through the Play Store, rather than through the system updates.
Because of this, the March 2025 update likely won’t feel like a major shift for most users, but it may include a larger set of changes or improvements that Google has been working on over a longer period of time.
Google’s decision to take a break from its usual update cadence could be aimed at conserving resources and allowing more time for a bigger, more polished update. Rather than releasing frequent small updates, the company may be focusing on delivering a more substantial update on a quarterly basis.
