Google states, a fully charged Pixel Watch 3 can last up to 24 hours with the Always-on Display feature activated, and even longer—over 36 hours—in Battery Saver mode. The Pixel Watch 2 offers similar performance, lasting around 24 hours with the Always-on Display on. Without this feature, battery life can still reach 24 hours.
Following the release of the Wear OS 5 update last month, which introduced notable battery enhancements. Recently, Google has published several valuable tips on its Google Pixel Watch Help Community forum to help users extend and improve the battery life of their Pixel smartwatches. These tips are designed to keep you powered up throughout the day.
To optimize performance, users should consider adjusting settings based on their usage patterns. Keep in mind that battery life can vary depending on factors like the features used, environmental conditions, and overall usage. By following these strategies, you can ensure your Pixel Watch stays charged and ready for all your daily activities.
All the tips below are shared by Google on its official community forum.
Quick Tips for Battery Optimization:
- Battery Saver: Turn on Battery Saver when your Google Pixel Watch battery gets low.
- Note: This built-in feature disables Always-On Display and Tilt-to-Wake for significant battery savings.
- Screen Timeout: Reducing the screen timeout period can prevent unnecessary power consumption.
- Mobile Mode: If you have the LTE version, use Mobile Mode wisely to conserve battery.
- Note: When your phone is both offline and Mobile Mode is Off, you won’t be able to use certain features like making a phone call.
- Wi-Fi and Bluetooth: Turn off when not in use, as these can drain the battery.
- GPS: Enable Google Location Accuracy for the most power-efficient location information.
- Bedtime mode: Turn on Bedtime mode for less battery drainage and minimal interruptions overnight when you wear the watch for sleep tracking.
- Tilt-to-wake: The Tilt-to-wake feature wakes your display when you tilt Google Pixel Watch. To extend watch battery life, you can turn this feature off.
- Always-on display: The Always-on display feature prevents your watch screen from going dark even when you’re not engaging with it. To extend watch battery life, you can turn this feature off.
- Full Doze Mode: Full Doze Mode Is a power-saving feature that automatically turns off the Google Pixel Watch screen and all modem radios (LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth) when you’re not wearing it, it’s not charging, or it’s inactive for 10 minutes. Full Doze Mode will turn off when you wear your watch on your wrist or when you interact with your watch.
- Brightness: Lowering the screen brightness can extend battery life.
- Notifications: Limit unnecessary notifications to reduce power consumption.
- Watch Faces: Simpler watch faces with fewer complications consume less battery.
- Tiles: Reduce the number of tiles on your watch face.
Deeper Dive into Battery Optimization to extend battery life:
- Battery Defender: If your Google Pixel Watch stays plugged into its charger for 4 days or longer, Battery Defender will pause charging to protect the battery. If your Google Pixel Watch remains at 80% or less, you may have Battery Defender on. When it activates, you should see a notification when waking or picking up the Google Pixel Watch from the charger. To continue charging further than 80%, remove the watch from the charger and then place it back.
- Reduce screen timeout period: Save battery life by setting up a screen timeout period that puts your watch screen to sleep after a set amount of time or inactivity. Set a shorter timeout period so your watch goes to sleep more frequently when you’re not using it.
- 1. On your Google Pixel Watch, swipe down tap Settings .
- 2. Tap Display Screen timeout.
- 3. Select a faster timeout.
- 4. For example: Select 10 seconds instead of 30 seconds (15 seconds for Pixel Watch 2).
- 5. Download music: Streaming music can drain batteries faster.
Software Optimization:
- App Management: Regularly review and uninstall unused apps.
- System Updates: Keep your watch’s software up-to-date for potential battery improvements.
- Third-Party Apps: Some third-party apps might consume excessive battery. Consider disabling or uninstalling them if necessary.
