The demand for cloud storage is skyrocketing in India and Jio free cloud storage is coming soon.
By the end of 2024, the public cloud market is expected to reach $13 billion, growing at an impressive annual rate of 24%. It could even contribute 8% to India’s GDP by 2026. Given this growth, it’s no surprise that Reliance is diving in.
Cloud storage lets people and businesses save data online—everything from files and photos to videos. Jio (India’s largest telecom provider), with its massive user base of 490 million, is already the world’s largest mobile data company. Each Jio user consumes about 30 GB of data monthly, and Jio’s network handles 8% of global mobile traffic.
In true Jio fashion, the company is shaking things up by offering free cloud storage services. During the recent Reliance Industries annual meeting, Mukesh Ambani announced that starting this Diwali, Jio users will receive up to 100 GB of free cloud storage.
This is a game-changer, especially since Apple charges ₹75 ($0.90 approx) a month for 50 GB and Google’s 100 GB plan costs ₹130 ($1.56 approx) after the free limit.
Mukesh Ambani aims to boost Reliance’s telecom revenue to $100 billion in the coming years, establishing a national AI infrastructure powered by green energy.
With Jio’s innovative approach, the cloud market in India—currently only 1.5% of the global space—could see significant changes. It remains to be seen if Jio’s free cloud storage will attract users and challenge competitors to rethink their pricing.
