Google is known for bringing exclusive features to its new Pixel phones, which later make their way to older models, and the Pixel 9 series is no different. The latest flagships introduce impressive camera and editing tools, including two standout Magic Editor features: Auto Frame and Reimagine.
These AI-powered tools make photo editing easier and more creative. Auto Frame intelligently adjusts the focus of an image, ensuring the subject is perfectly framed, even if that means expanding the background. Meanwhile, Reimagine gives users the ability to swap out backgrounds, transforming images with just a few taps.
What’s exciting for owners of older Pixels is that these features won’t be limited to the Pixel 9 series for long. Tipster Assemble Debug recently discovered evidence in the Google Photos app that points to these features being rolled out to older Pixel phones, such as the Pixel 6, Pixel 7, and Pixel 8 series.
Google’s Android 16 Redesigns Notifications and Quick Settings Panels: Here’s the first look
The discovery came from analyzing different versions of the Google Photos app. There are three versions: one for non-Pixel Android devices, one for Pixel phones released between 2021 and 2023, and another for the 2024 Pixel 9 series.
The Pixel 9’s version of the app already includes the code for Auto Frame and Reimagine, but the latest version (6.99) for the older Pixels now has this code as well, signaling that these features could be arriving soon.
As of now, non-Pixel devices aren’t expected to get these features, keeping them exclusive to Google’s Pixel lineup. While there’s no exact timeline, it’s likely that these new editing tools will come to older Pixels through an upcoming Feature Drop, continuing Google’s tradition of enhancing its devices with powerful new software over time.
